When To Go

The best times to visit Lisbon is during spring through summer to early fall ~ March to October. During spring and early fall, you will encounter fewer crowds while the temperatures are still warm but you won't overheat.

Note: The summer is high season and with that come larger crowds, it would be wise to book everything well in advance, you might also pay more for your accommodations.

Where To Stay In Lisbon

I stayed in the Alfama District of Lisbon. If you like architecture and history this is the place to stay. It is the oldest part of the city. Historical Moorish footprint, charming cobbled streets, squares, and lots of character.
From budget hotels to luxurious boutique hotels, there’s something for everyone here.

My second choice would be to stay in the Baixa District. This is the most central in the city. In this area of Lisbon, you will find beautiful traditional homes covered in tile, cozy squares, typical Portuguese food, and lively nightlife.

  • Stop at Commerce Square: This is probably the most popular square in Lisbon, it is the biggest. This spectacular spot is right by the river Tagus, it is also packed with people making it a perfect location for drinks, a book, and people watching!

The square was built where the old Palace used to stand. The Rua Augusta Arch can be seen across the square; a beautiful sight.

Fact: It is here that a military coup took place in 1974.
