Bratislava is the capital city of Slovakia, located on the banks of the Danube River. This beautiful city has a fascinating history to share with its visitors. The city showcases spectacular palaces and dreamy castles. It is all surrounded by the Little Carpathian mountains and lots of green.
We had one day to spend exploring Bratislava when we were visiting Vienna; there is more to this city than meets the eye, that's for sure!

12 X Things To See And Do In Bratislava
Stroll the city's old center: The Old Town of Bratislava dates back to the 18th century. The quarter is closed off to cars and showcases architecture, color, and a lot of character.
TIP! Walk by the stunning buildings of the National Theatre; it's a great example of old meets new. The one building was built back in 1886 in Neo-Renaissance style while the second was designed and constructed in 2007. Don't miss Hviezdoslavovo Square!
Visit the Slavín war memorial.
Visit Bratislava castle: This castle is an iconic symbol of the city! The views from this hilltop are gorgeous and on a clear day, you can see as far as Austria! This city has many castles to explore so if this is something you enjoy doing, like me, these tours can be a great match!
Visit the Primates Palace: This palace dates back to the 18th century serving today as the official seat of the Mayor of Bratislava. The palace holds historical significance as well as beauty. This is where the fourth Peace of Pressburg agreement was signed in 1805 between Napoleon and the Holy Roman Emperor. This brought the war between them to an end.
Here you will be able to admire beautifully unique art pieces, lavish golden decorations, the buildings themselves and the surroundings.Another palace not to be missed is the Grassalkovich Palace serving as the official residence of Slovakia's president.
Walk along the river or better yet, go on board the riverboat for a cruise down Europe's second-longest river. Along the river, you will find special monuments marking historical dates and events in the history of the city.
Check out these water fun activities to be head in Brasilava!
Look for the quirky statues around the Old Town: In the main square of the city, you'll find Napoleon leaning on a bench as if people watching. Another statue and perhaps my favorite is of a sewer worker coming up for his break from underneath. Keep your eyes open!
Walkthrough Michael's Gate: This is the former entrance to Bratislava and the only remaining gate built back in the 12th century, in the medieval style. The tower above hosts different exhibitions on a variety of topics such as old city photos and weaponry. From the top of the tower, you are guaranteed to have the best panoramic views of the city!
Visit the Freedom Square.
The SNP Bridge is an iconic landmark!
Fun fact: The bridge is also referred to as the UFO Bridge due to UFOs spotted here over the years. You can get onto the top deck to look at Bratislava as well as enjoy time out while having drinks and tasting local dishes.
Visit Saint Martin cathedral: This cathedral dates back to the 15th century built in the Gothic style.
Visit the Church of St. Elizabeth: This is a Hungarian Secessionist Catholic church also known as the Blue Church because of its blue-themed color. This church honors Elizabeth who was the Empress of Austria and Queen of Hungary, a busy lady! Beautifully colorful church designed in the art nouveau style in 1909.
If you plan to stay in Bratislava longer than one day here are some amazing additional activities to enjoy!
Enjoy your trip! Hopefully, we will all be free to travel again and continue exploring this wonderful world!
