5 X Destinations Perfect For A Day Trip In NL
Delft: This university town is a very interesting destination to visit. It holds so much history, art (Vermeer is buried here.), and culture. Delft is mostly famous for its Delft pottery, also known as Delft Blue, it's probably the prettiest souvenir you can bring home with you.
From Amsterdam you can take the train, it will take you about 50 minutes to arrive in Delft. From Den Haag, it's even easier you can just take the tram. I always start my day in Delft in the main square, called Markt. This is a very cozy and colorful part of town.
Here you'll find the New Church at the heart of it. The Delft City Hall is on the opposite side, and in between, there are many small restaurants, bars, and shops. Most famous for Delftware shops showing a variety of items you can choose from. Have a coffee and a pastry here, enjoy the views and especially the atmosphere!
William of Orange lived in Delft until his murder and is buried at the New Church, which is the resting place for members of the Dutch royal family. If you're not afraid of stairs, climb to the top of the tower and admire the incredible views over the city.

There is also another church you can visit, the Old Church, you can buy a combined ticket for both. The historic old part of town is small but beautiful to explore on foot.
TIP: If you're visiting during the weekend, don't miss the flea market located along Hippolytusbuurt and Voldersgracht.
Giethoorn: This picturastic small village (under 3,000 people live here) is mostly car-free meaning you need to explore it and get around by boat, it is unique indeed! Green, beautiful, relaxing, and of course the centuries-old thatched-roof houses are cool too. When you plan your visit make sure to book and reserve your ticket in advance, especially during the summer months. There are also many activities you can enjoy on the water.

Utrecht: Utrecht is a smaller version of Amsterdam! A short train ride will bring you to the heart of the city. There's a market right next to the central station you can stroll through and begin your day at. There is a very pretty and buzzing old part of the city to wander around in. You can walk over the bridges, have a sit, and take in the vibe and your surroundings.
You can discover the traditional Dutch iconic symbols by taking a boat ride through the canals. What you see from the water always gives a different impression. Don’t miss out on visiting the stunning Cathedral. The narrow streets here are filled with cafes and boutique stores. Don't leave without having lunch, dinner, or afternoon drinks in one of the restaurants on the banks of the canals.
TIP: If vintage clothing is your thing, you'll find many stores to rummage through.

Alkmaar: Probably most famous for its amazing cheese market drawing tourists from around the world! What is unique to this market taking place every Friday from April to September, is that you can see traditionally how cheese has been traded for centuries long. A must visit! The cheese porters wear traditional folkloric clothes, old school tools such as scales are used, and the vibe is crazy!
How they run around doing their trade will blow you away, it takes place in Waagplein. Get this- Up to 30,000 kilos are lined up and waiting for customers! Alkmaar is a pretty town with an old center and canals which are pleasant to walk through.

Den Bosch: It may be a small town however, it is packed with attractions for visitors; think churches, museums, and markets and let's not forget the very chichi boutiques, unique restaurants, and bars. Shopping here is fun!
