9 X Best Tips For Egmond Aan Zee!
As we continue to deal with Corona restrictions and travel bans, we also have a wonderful opportunity to get to know and explore our own backyards more than before. Springtime is almost upon us (and may I say YaY!) it's time for beautiful day trips from Amsterdam!
If you're looking for a great day trip from Amsterdam consider Egmond aan Zee! Egmond has three central attractions; Egmond aan zee is the beach area, Egmond-Binnen features pasture landscape, in the season magical tulips fields, and has the oldest abbey in the country, and finally Egmond den Hoef, the historical village.
Egmond den Hoef is located about a 40 minutes drive from Amsterdam, also, it is a short drive from the beach so this road trip offers the country as well as the seafront, it is a perfect combination!

What can you see & do in Egmond Aan Zee
Start in the historic part, the village Egmond den Hoef: At the heart of the village, you will find the ruins of the Castle den Hoef next to the village's beautiful Chapel dating back to 1234. The castle dates back to the Middle Ages, it was destroyed in 1573 so the Spanish will not be able to use it as a hiding place during the war with the Netherlands.
Visit the Abbey of Egmond Monstery.
Visit the Egmond museum.
Stroll through the cozy, pretty, and very well-kept streets of the village.
Spend a day at the beach: The beach is 5 km along the North Sea, you can sunbathe and enjoy water sports such as wind or kite surfing and volleyball. Once you're done swimming and working on your tan, opted for ice cream, having a cocktail while watching the sunset, or enjoying a tasty meal on one of the beach terraces.
Have fresh fish & chips Dutch style for lunch.
Climb the Lighthouse Van Speijk: This lighthouse is by far the most spectacular I have seen in the Netherlands.
Walk or bike along the beautiful dunes: The views are stunning! Along the route, you will come across a beautiful yet sad statue of a woman called 'Het Derper Vraawtje' this creation is dedicated to the widows of WWI.
Enjoy an evening walk along the lively boulevard along the beach. Good views and vibes to match for a beautiful dinner and drinks.
