The Island Of Kos- 6 X Best Ways To Enjoy This Greek Paradise!

On the shores of the Greek island of Kos

I love the Greek islands, don't you? There are so many Greek islands you can explore and so little time to do it in, the good thing is that no matter which Island you decide to visit, I'm sure it will be a winner!

For me, Kos and Santorini are the two favorites, I'm always happy to return there for an awesome Mediterranian break.

The beach of Kos, Greece

The Greek island of Kos is an island that offers so much more than just a sunny vacation on a stunning beach. The island has over 5,000 years of fascinating history as it's been ruled by the Romans, the Venetians, the medieval Knights, and the Ottomans.

This is combined with pretty little villages that await you, decorated in the typical Greek style we've all come to know and love. This island is smaller and less touristic making it more relaxing and less busy to explore.

Best Time To Travel To Kos

A Mediterranean climate means hot dry summers and mild winters. If you're like me, always following the sun then the time for you to visit is between May to September. At the end of October, the islands are mostly closed off to tourists. Most airlines stop flying and all the major hotels and resort shut down.

Where To Stay

We stayed at the Blue Lagoon Resort just outside Kos Town and it was a memorable stay on all fronts! Best feature? They have their very own water park! I can't tell you how many times we went up and down the slides, it was a better workout than going to the gym, slightly more fun too lol

Top Travel Tips For The Greek Island Of Kos

Explore Kos Town: This is the capital of the island. It holds many hidden treasures just waiting to be discovered, this is a town filled with charisma and a good atmosphere. The lively marina is a good place to start. From the marina of Kos Town, you can arrange a boat and head out on the water for the day. You can see how the fresh seafood and fish are brought back for the cozy little restaurants along the water to buy. You can enjoy a walk here and the refreshing breeze.

Anywhere you wander in town, you'll stumble upon ancient Greek ruins, and the medieval castle over the harbor makes every sunset magical. Explore the Asklepieion: An ancient center of medicine that was built in honor of the god of health and medicine called Asklepios.

Visit Hippocrates Square and his tree of knowledge: This huge old tree is around 500 years old. It is believed that Hippocrates sat under this tree to teach his students. Granted the original tree has been replaced, it's still a very special spot, there's just something in the air.

FOOD TIP: The square is the perfect location for a lunch break!

Take time to enjoy the sunshine on the beach. There's no better way to chill in Greece!

Taste the delicious Greek food! Here you’ll find fresh fish and seafood daily. You can also taste local specialties such as Labropitesare which is traditional Koan prosfa cheese pies, and stuffed tomatoes with octopus.

Take a walk around Ancient Agora: It's beautiful and very educational, allowing you a glimpse into how things used to be here once upon a time, including small shrines to Aphrodite and Hercules.

Take a boat out from the marina, you have a few options you can choose from:

  • Sailing along the coast while also having a snorkel stop and lunch

  • Go Dolphin watching

  • Sunset and dinner cruise

  • Go island-hopping: These two islands are the most beautiful in the area and easy to reach, definitely worthy of a visit: Kalymnos and Pserimos. The second is where the locals produce sponges they take out from the sea.

Have dinner in Zia: This little town is located up in the mountains offering panoramic views and a colorful sunset to go with your dinner.

This will be a great way to celebrate the end of summer, giving us the strength to face winter if you know what I mean :-)
