#1 Visit Utrecht: Utrecht is like a mini Amsterdam; the city's old center is rich with history and beautiful architecture, it has a canal ring with lovely cafes along the water banks, bridges, markets, unique boutiques (especially if you like vintage fashion), and wonderful laid back vibes.

#2 Visit Delft: Delft is one of my favorite cities for a day trip! It is lovely, cozy, rich with art, and the best part? It's only a 50-minute train ride away. Delft is a canal-ringed city most famous for manufacturing hand-painted blue-and-white pottery known as Royal Delft Blauw, dating back to 1653! It is stunningly made, an original souvenir to take with you.

The city's highlights are: Walk around the old center. Admire the spectacular Renaissance City Hall. Enter the medieval old church, also home to the tomb of the Dutch Master painter Johannes Vermeer. The lively Market square is also where you can find cafes and terraces to enjoy the atmosphere over drinks and typical dutch bites.

For the best panoramic views of the city, go up the tower of the New Church, offering views of the city from above.

Visit the Royal Delft Museum Another interesting option is to experience the art of the master painter Vermeer in the Vermeer Center

PRO TIP! When you are planning your trip to the Netherlands, it is best to book your tickets for the different activities in advance. Not only is it often cheaper, but you will also have no surprises like being denied entry due to Corona restrictions.

#3 Visit Giethoorn: Giethoorn is a car-free village in the province of Overijssel AKA ~ the Venice of The Netherlands. Located about an hour and a half drive from Amsterdam, this picturesque and beautiful village is most famous for the boat-filled waterways, bridges, and thatched-roof houses. The way to explore it is by boat. I advise you to book your tickets well in advance to avoid lines and long waits, especially during the high season. You can also join an organized tour.

#4 Visit Kinderdijk: Kinderdijk is a gorgeous village located about 100 km south of Amsterdam. This tiny village showcases the Netherlands in a nutshell; declared in 1997 a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it features 19 well-preserved windmills dating back to 1740 set in a beautiful and typical Dutch landscape. A good way to enjoy the surroundings is to take a boat trip.

#5 Lisse Tulip fields & Keukenhof: The Keukenhof is an amazingly large flower garden, also known as the Garden of Europe, it is situated in the town of Lisse. The gardens cover a staggering 32 hectares, and get this, around 7 million flower bulbs are planted in the gardens annually, creating a remarkable sea of flowers of all kinds and colors.

Tulips are one of the most famous symbols of the Netherlands and there's no better place to experience this beauty than visiting the Lisse fields located around the corner from the entrance to the gardens. Enjoy the spectacular and colorful tulip fields, it is definitely a unique and fun experience. Both are a must-visit!
